Hi Fellas.
Hi Jon. I want to make a simple rollbar for my ute. I reckon 5.1 meters is enough. So a length of the larger diameter would be what I need. Whether a length be 6m or 8m doesn't matter.
Regards, Wayne.

Do we have some sort of ETA on this at all? Just wondering.

Let's chat about it on the weekend but I am happy to start getting quotes next week if everyone has made up their minds?

Does anyone have any opinion about Jonno 165's post above? I also cant help think that we are going overboard here

I think that we would need to see some form of stats on strength, weight and price differences between the two, improper cage material has been used before without any issues, some others could probably comment a bit better on this.
If using pipe isn't going to cause a major structural defect, then I think it might be worth looking into to find some more info on.

On saying that, what is your LIFE worth?
You will find that you get into more compromising positions in a car with a cage. And therefore you will need it more and more.
It only takes one bad fall, say off the top of the rock on the "ledge track", to make a cheep choice a dangerous choice.
My advice is don't skimp on a cage. If you ever sell your car(or cage) someone else is not going to know the limits of your cage. And might just do themselves a serious injury or worse.

Rant off

Hi Mitch, I don't think that is what Jonno165 is saying, we are trying to work out what the right choice is, not necissarily the cheapest. If we go by the logic that we should get the best available we would all be running chromo cages but being realistic the cams rules specify certain materials and certain sizes and designs for certain event categories. Their lowest spec is 38x2.5mm CDW for speed events with min 350N/mm2 tensile strength. Realistically we are not building these cages to withstand high speed crashes as the CAMS rules are intended for. I agree that we need to not skimp out on them so design, mounting an material are crucial as there can still be plenty of force in any roll over but perhaps the same safety margin that cams requires is going overboard. Is there any way we can quantify and compare the strength of the materials available with the max load or impact we could In theory generate (worst case) to work out what we do actually need?

Sorry I should add that I figure we are not going to get an outcome where we are 100% confident and in agreement on anything other than CDW so I am still progressing with the quotes in the background.

Does anyone have any designs they would like to share? I think this is going to be the hardest part
