MVO tracks we need to decide if they should be reopened

Post by billbarbas »

OK here is a list of the tracks we need to deceide if we should argue if they are to reopen.
Dse and Parks have justified closure as they are classified for Horses, Walkers and Bicycles only.
Avards Tk
BGS Firebreak
Burgess Rd
Cannibal Ck Tk
Dawsons Tk
Guide Tk
Hackett Tk
Hakea Tk
Horeseshoe Tk
Jacks Tk
Luptons Tk
Nichols Hut Tk
Olsen Tk
Sand Pit Ridge Tk
Silvertop Ridge
Steege Tk
Steering Wheel
Western Tk
Triangle Rd
Uk Track
Weatherhead Tk
William Wallace Tk
Williams Rd
Windy Point Rd
Yarrabubba Tk
Adams fireline
Beatties Fireline
Camp Tk
Clarkes Ck
Escourts Tk
Gilwell Tk
Jims Fireline
Kurht Kiln Tk
Manna Gum
Monkhouse Tk
Monks Fireline
Possum Trap
Sheppards Creek Rd
Short Cut
Spot Over
Toms Tk
Ute Road
Water Channel Tk
Wood Duck Tk

We need to identify these tracks and see if they are of interest to us. If for example, the track is only 200 metres long and does not link to other tracks then it is not worth reopening.
If you know these tracks please advise your thoughts so we can then go to the negotiating table.

Regards,

Bill
PS: They have classed Western a closed Water Catchment area, this is going to be a pearler.

I just had a quick look at my Rooftop map field checked in 2004 and a number of those you have listed were marked as roads and 4wd tracks but seem to have since been classified according to what you have posted as for horse, bikes and walkers which is obviously not what they were originally.

This is why we in particlular with Bunyip, it will be a challenge becomes it seems there are more tracks for them than there are for us.

JACKS TRACK

This was unfortunately ruined by people who had NFI and cut a massive bypass around the ledge on it.

It has a big ledge ( stand on your bum in a SWB sierra big) across the track then a really techncial rock section that's kinda a V notch.

An awesome track.

Apparently "steering wheel" is what we know as "cypress hill" and is 110% double black diamond.

And probably the site of the best club trip I've ever been on. Took all day to drive the track, everyone came back with damage, but it was so engaging- ledges, massive ruts, deeply undercut tree roots and up the top, rock.

Bill,

A couple of quick questions:

1. is there a limit to how many would be re-opened?
2. is there a map available that everyone can look at to agree which track name associates with what track on a map? There are a few great tracks that have been shut in gembrook, but i don't have names for all of them.

Thanks mate,
Greg

p.s. better get a few parking lots re-opened so you have somewhere to take the jeep ;)

1. There is no limit on reopenings
2. Believe it or not, Parks and Dse have different maps. Best thing would be to get out as many old maps as possible and check em against the list.
3. My Jeep has been offroad more times than your sierra in the last week!!!!!!

We might all have to move to Gembrook if this gets off the ground....

I am probably wrong but I'm sure I have driven Steering Wheel in a stock Mq Patrol, actually I'm 90% sure I have, although it would have been around 2001 so maybe it changed a lot since then.

Hmm, Ok then - I was talking to Greg and he reckoned Christover reckoned it was Cypress Hill...

We would have last been there around 2003 or something and a stock MQ wouldn't have gone near it.

We need to sit down with a map... :)
