An interesting article about E85 fuel. 85% Ethanol & 15% Petrol.

Hate to think what it does to your engine long term ?

Nothing if it's a flexfuel engine.

There are very few flexfuel engines available in australia (Saab, I think, amongst others are e85 compatible), and some of the Chevs that Jim (sierrajim) imports will be E85 capable.

Wouldn't recommend it in the Vit though....

I would not even think about using it.
It makes you wonder why only a few makes of cars are compatible with this type of fuel ....

Because certain countries have E85 available fairly readily (Mexico, Sweden, US, Brazil) but other countres don't use it (like us) but car makers build for a world market.

If a model isnt designed for export it might only be compatible with local conditions, but if a model is to be sold worldwide it needs to be compatible with all world standards, and that inceasingly dictates E85 capability

When holden previewed the VE Commodore wagon (it was at the 4WD show in October) it was shown with an LS2 V8 motor designed to run on E85. a pretty easy task - the LS series of motors in the US are e85 capable - stainless fuel rails etc.
