Idle problem

Post by Matthew »

My car won't idle, it runs fine above around 1800rpm, below 1800 it runs really rough and stalls.
All the hoses on the carby appear to be intact and conected, I've changed the plugs (looked pretty oily and carbon encrusted), ignition leads, and about to do the fuel and air filters (all things I've been meaning to do for a few weeks)
What is the problem most likely to be?
If I can't work this out by tomorrow afternoon I'm going to have to take it to the mechanic, otherwise I won't be on Saturdays trip :(

Could be junk in the jets. You could try a Mexican tune up. Rev the crap out of it and stick a rag over the top of the carb and see if it helps pull the junk through. May need to try a couple of times. Christover is pretty experienced at this. You could also try some fuel system cleaner in th etank.

If you been swimming, it could be mud/water in the fuel tank, filters and idle jets.

You should still check out your fuel tank, lines, filters etc, or you could quickly just block up the new carby.
