idle / revs increase when lights/heater on

Post by timpatterson »

Hi. Hoping someone out the can help. Sierra 92'mdl. Ever since i bought this a few years back, the engine idles fine, however when the lights and/or the heater turned on, revs/idle increases (and stays at high revs) until i turn them off. Ok for when driving along (and i don't use at night anyways), however when come to traffic lights etc, the car is revving and could potentially be a unwanted cruise control... Hopefully simple :?: ?? Thanks in advance here :)

Yes, simple fix. There is an idle up solenoid on the front of the carby (in front of you if you're standing at the front of the car facing the engine)

The amount it increases revs when the blower fan or lights are turned on is adjustable. Just tweak to suit.

I don't have photos/diagrams but someone else might. If you watch the front of the carby with the engine running and get someone to turn the lights on and off you'll see what's moving and needs adjustment.

Many thanks gwagansteve (STEVE).
I literally saw your reply, wandered out to garage and found the solenoid/adjusted - all done.
Quite awesome really
Cheers Tim
