ouch diff busted as well as t-case

Nothing suggests to me wether diff busted first, or the t-case.
Could have happened either way.
This is the only obvious damage to diff, even the pinion is not too bad, strangely.
We must have parked the car, at camp site, with pinion right on the missing teeth :roll:
It will have an olive drab diff fitted next, wonder where that casing came from :lol:

The new rear diff is a pegged crown wheel type, I seem to have much better luck with them.
Makes sense now that rear is under a lot more pressure.
Quite possible that my crown wheel was warped, and the old diff was noisey from day one.

New diff is below my hearing range now, thats a good sign :)

Spare t-case is fitted, but its not up to scratch, but I am able to drive it out to pick up bettererer t-cases.

Finish off a safety check of frog, then its onto tadpole repairs, until fitment of better t-case.

Pulled t-case apart this arvo.
Everything was in quite good nick.
Except the large (LOW ?) cog was siezed solid to the shaft.
From what I can work out, which ever cog is selected by the selector, the other should spin free.
The smaller cog was free spinning, so LOW box was working.
But in high, the low cog was stuck solid, and selector wont go over the synchro.
At least it doesn't look like there was anything I could have done to prevent it.
Other than stop driving if my passenger hears cicadas again.

This is all theory, cos I do not know much about the inner workings of t-case
