How much parting out is worth

Post by jonfromhamilton »

I'm seriously thinking about letting my rego lapse and selling my chassis, body (haha) hard top and front and rear bars.
And the g16b and fuel tanks etc but wanted to get an idea from you guys what I should advertise them for $?$?$

Going to put the money towards a trayback on club reg instead

Not enough.

(As in, you won't get enough money for your stuff to make it worthwhile)

Chassis is worthless. It has a chassis number on it, so unless the buyer wants to do something illegal it can't be reworked into a registered car.

Body tub? $150, if you're lucky.

Hard top might be worth $500

G16B - $500 or so

Tank $200

Bars - $200 each

That looks awesome - BUT - throw in disassembly, dodgy buyers, and the time involved and you're looking at a huge amount of effort and hassle for not all that much money to put towards a car that will need far more time and money spent on it than your current car has in it. Any tray back is going to need rust repair and a driveline rebuild. It's also going to be very well worn everywhere else - expect to have to go through EVERYTHING - rebuild the heater box and steering column, the sun visors will have broken out of the header rail, cracks in the doors from opening and closing them with the windows down. So you sell off all your good stuff and then have to buy most of it back again to fix up the tray back you sold everything to buy.

Doesn't make any sense to me.

Alas I can't afford to run two cars on full registration so... that's something.
the only option really is to get an older Sierra or put the transfer case and rear diff etc in my ford focus.

I will think about what I want to sell or don't want to sell in the next 6 months
any rate i am going to keep the diffs and suspension and wheels etc because i will re-use them.

desperate times.

Only got one maybe offer on Frog of $900.
Took 12 months to sell off most of the parts, but got $3500.
Have sold around $300 worth over last couple of years.
Swapped a few bits for Vit parts, and reused some parts on the Vit.
You have to balance your time, effort and money etc to work out what is best for you.
