probably starter solenoid

Post by jonfromhamilton »

my car is being a bit temperamental.
when I turn the key sometimes I get a little bit of noise (not quite dead like a flat battery) but the engine won't turn over.
If i have another go it usually goes but today i tried like 5 times to get it going.
I'm thinking it is a connection in the starter motor or perhaps the engine is trying to seize
thoughts?
FigureI will pull the starter motor off and pull it apart to see if it is full of mud or something.

Could be the starter or its solenoid.
Bypassing the original circuit through a relay can be helpful.

Take a jumper lead and connect the battery to the starter terminal directly to rule the solenoid in or out.
