Suzuki Sierra (1995) snorkel

I have ordered a snorkel via the internet and have heard that the fitting template/instructions leave a lot to be desired. Can anyone provide some practical hints/tips to successfully fitting the snorkel. What should I NOT do?

Yes ...that would help. I attach the link to the site I purchased the snorkel from on ebay - hope this is enough. The item is from Malaysia. I received the item yesterday and have had no experience with installing. I have heard some horror stories of people blindly following the template/instructions only to find they have cut the hole in the guard or positioned incorrectly.
Any hints/tips would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I just had a look at the ad.

Ksuzuki, I can't comment on that snorkel, but it doesn't look to hard to work out where it has to go- it will sit snug on the a pillar and the flare, and viola! That's where it has to go.

Even workshops can get snorkel fitting wrong, with excellent templates.

Jon- I wouldn't rock that snorkel myself. (Ksuzuki- this isn't directed at you- I can't comment on your car or use) but it won't work well witha virtual lift, and I don't like the idea of a snorkel down by the front of the guard- it's a vulnerable spot for something that important. Look for the style that comes in behind the flare. That's if you even need a snorkel.

Thank you for the honest assessment and I was interested in your comments on the vulnerability of the snorkel on the guard. Will fit it over this weekend and see how it goes but agree that the shape and moulding for the guard/flare pretty much will assist with correct alignment.

Just a couple of further questions -
- what type of process do you suggest for cutting through the metal guard? Is there any recommended type of blade/drill?
- what should I seal the snorkel to the intake with?

I use gamflex style hole saws for that sort of thing, but they are quite expensive.

I'm not sure what the hose is like between the snorkel and the intake. In theory, no sealant should be required, but you could use sikaflex or similar if you were concerned.

Thanks steve. Appreciate you taking the time to respond. The hose (with clamps) looks pretty good so probably will not need a sealant but might add a little anyway (belts & braces approach).

Just thought that i would add an update. Fitted the snorkel which was not that difficult. The template was actually pretty close and all but one of the holes to be drilled lined up perfectly.
I did need to take off some of the hardware from the front of the air cleaner assembly to fit the hose (which fitted perfectly as well) but just wondering if this will have a detrimental effect on fuel economy? Car is running well though.
It is a VERY large item to put on the side of a small car and i had to remove the drivers side indicator to fit flush with the wheel arch moulding.

If I was to do again I would also use the smaller snorkel model that comes in further up the guard. But...done now and seems OK.
