now Saturday 30th March.... probably.

Post by jonfromhamilton »

A couple of friends and I are either going camping or driving on Friday morning.
If the weather forecast for Friday and Saturday night is alright we are going to Dargo to camp for a couple of nites, do some driving and some river crossings.
If the weather is crappy and wet I am going to lead a medium trip up to Toolangi just for the day instead.
expecting a Patrol and Hilux to be on the trip plus whoever wan'ts to come.

The decision will be made on Wednesday or Thursday nite.

anyone keen ?

Went out to Toolangi today, me and my Hilux driving buddy.
Started at Rocky which we both just drove up with no problems then sort of zig zagged our way north.
Highlights were Downies Spur where I got nearly all the way through a watery bog hole but on the exit got stuck and water came in over the tail-gate and ruined my hot-cross buns.
then when I got snatched out it all rushed in around my feet over the sill level :( so lame.
We went up horseyard something track and did north track, a few others aroiund there which was lame as.
Couldn't find the steps unfortunately but did Aeroplane which had a whole lot of big gravel dumped all over it so was a pretty boring drive.
We spat out on plantation road on the other side of Toolangi which has all sorts of exotic trees and actual grass which was nice to drive through.
the best track of the day was about 300m make-shift track up from Plantation road straight through the bush, it was slippery dirt with smoe bad camber and steep climbs, I made it up but the hilux couldn't so I turned around to drive back down.
out of the whole day driving we did like 3 good tracks and now I have a lot of cleaning to do.

We also did "reds east track" which was cool fun, pretty steep but no problem.
There was a patrol sideways on the track and was looking for me to winch him back up so he could straighted up, this was funny but really I didnt bring my winch controller so that was a no go.
I came up with the idea of running a winch extension from the back of the patrol around a tree 2 times and abseiling the patrol down a little bank bit on the track to straighten it up and keep its ass uphill.
Worked great even with only one person on the end of the strap.
