Any easy 4WD tracks in Vicroria - Mt Disappointment ?

Post by northbush »

G'Day,
I am new to the club and this is my first post. Wondering you guys know any easy-moderate tracks in Northern victora that my Vitara could take up well provided no winch or any other off road accessories in it. :|
I found Mt Dissapointment track and 4x4 earth web site rates it as easy but like to know from someone who experienced it with a Suzuki. Any bog holes or slippery areas ? Hope that the tracks are worse by rainy season. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Unfortunately, since the 2009 fires, all of the good tracks in Mt Disappointment have been closed and dozed.

It is now basically only good for a sunday drive and picnic (but without the nice scenery).

I would suggest heading east to Toolangi, or west to Wombat State forest.

cheers,
Greg

G'day Greg, thanks a lot for your info. Is any of those tracks are GV friendly ? I already bang my tow bar (though the ball removed) on the bottom of the driveway and thinking it might happen in one of those tracks where the climb is bit steep. Have you done those tracks with a GV and was it good experience ? Thanks a lot

I think it would be fair to estimate that any state forest around melbourne would be 80 - 90% driveable in 2wd for any (almost) any vehicle. i.e. there is no reason why you couldnt drive your ford falcon around to all of the picnic areas and scenic lookouts in these areas.

It is only the 10 - 20% of the tracks that we would consider as anything challenging, and within those, only a quarter of them would be un-drivable in your GV.

i.e.

If we said that Gembrook State Forest had 100 tracks:
80 would be drivable in 2wd
15 would be challenging in a GV
5 would be undrivable in a GV

Does that answer your question?
