the length of the bend is 590mm

Re: Metal Bending
Hi jonfromhamilton. A method I have used to bend steel, although not over that length. But i think it could still work. With an angle grinder, score a line along where you want the bend to be. About half the thickness deep. If the metal is 5mm, then the score would be about 2 to 3 mm deep. Then clamp the metal to a former and bend it so the score is on the inside of the bend. A bit of heat would help. Then when you are happy with the bend, run a weld along the inside of the bend. A bushmans way of doing it I know, but it works. If you are not too worried about the appearance ,then it is easier to bend if the score is on the outside. Regards, Luigi.

only saw this post now. There is a guy I use in braeside who is cheap and fast and will supply the steel too if you don't have it for cheap prices.
AusFold - 9587 6722 - Stewart is the guys name, i think.
He makes bash plates and stuff for Rally cars and i've had numerous things bent up there from my fuel tank bash plate to a fully folded high mount winch frame bucket for our comp jeep.
Just go in there with a drawing and measurements of what you want and easy done.

awesome, I'm going to drop it in to him tomorrow and he will just wait until the machine is set up so he doesn't have to fluff around setting it up just for my crap.
He reckons $25
