Snow Trip - Mt Skene - Report and Pics - P.11

Post by Greg »

TRIP TITLE:
Annual Snow Trip

TRIP DATE:
Friday 31st August 2012
Saturday 1st September 2012
Sunday 2nd September 2012

TRIP DESCRIPTION:
The Suzuki Club's (almost) Annual Snow Trip to Mt Skene.

TRIP LOCATION:
This trip is typically driven in 4 parts:
1. Drive from Melbourne Jamison on Friday Night
2. Drive up to the summit of Mt Skene on Saturday morning and find a place to setup camp.
3. Short day trip from camp site around the summit area and along a few tracks and clearings (ideally all covered in snow)
4. Drive down off the mountain on Sunday arvo and then back towards Melbourne.

Due to everyone's different schedules and accomodation requirements, there will typically be people driving up to Jamison early on Saturday to join the convoy, as well as other members coming down off the mountain to stay in Jamison on the Saturday night instead of braving/suffering in the cold.

TRIP RATING:
The snow trip will cater for all levels of vehicle and driver experience. It's the once a year trip where all cars can come along and have fun with challenges for everyone.

TRIP REQUIREMENTS (Driver and Vehicle):
Here's a link to a prev snow trip. Check out the first post - Steve has quite a good write up there with car and driver requirements:
http://www.vic.suzuki4wd.com/forum/view ... 1&start=10

OTHER TRIPS:
Here is a detailed writeup about the awesomeness that is the Snow Trip:
http://www.auszookers.com/forum/viewtop ... 28&t=28700

TRIP MEETING POINT:
We will have several meeting points (TBC) for each group:
1. Friday Night Departure from Melbourne
2. Saturday Morning Departure from Melbourne
3. Saturday Morning Departure from Jamison
4. Any other groups?

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Due to alpine road permit requirements, we will need to confirm numbers well before the trip date.

I propose that the August Club meeting will be the cut off (Wed 8-Aug-2012) - so you must have your 2012-13 membership paid in full on that date.

ATTENDEE LIST:
Please post up your interest

I contacted 4wd Vic to ask if we could submit blank forms to reserve the dates but it is a no go.

We will definatley need to lock in our numbers at the Wed 8th August Meeting.

I'm sure we can volunteer Steve to be Friday trip leader

What about the idea of getting a pass for entire season so we can go when there is actually some snow up there????

I had asked about that in the past and was rejected too.

They have a limit to the number of people they can have on the mountain for a certain date - which is completely understandable.

We were aiming for the date we have picked at Steve will be available for it.

There is no reason we couldnt have more than one trip to the snow in a given year though - i.e. if there is a sudden dump of snow in June, then we can organise to head up there in June as well.

I'm super keen on thois trip in the Sierra which will hopefully have more goodies on it by then.

I am keen as to camp in the snow but not sure which night yet.

Going to endeavour to get my snowboard and stuff over from NZL before then so I can have a go at carwakeboardingwithasnowboard.

Will anyone be heading up the mountain on the Friday to avoid the big cars like in previous years? Or is this not necessary with the permit scheme?

I reckon I'd still like to do the Friday climb/camp. It's still nice being the only people on the mountain.

Steve.
