transfer case gears

Post by kbjimny »

I have a sierra case in my jimny running 4.16:1 gears.
i have just relised the gears in my transfer case have been destroyed, i purchased a comlpete transfer case from ORA so i dont know what brand of gears they were but they were welded not billet.
I would like peoples opinion of a good cauality gear set that is billet not welded that i can replace my current gears with. I am currently looking at the
low-range offroad gears or the Calmini gears, has anybody had any experience with these gears?

Cheers

I run lowrange 4:24 gears in my Vitara.
Seem well made, but I not an engineer.
Running smooth and quiet,
was simple instal.
I think the lowrange gears are made by same factory as Suzuki stock gears.
But I not sure of that.
Have no knowledge of calmini gears.
But all people I know are very happy with lowrange stuff.

A) Low range don't "make" anything. They are a reseller. Being happy with low range is being happy with their service. It's someone else's product.

B) Low range sell Tail gear gears. Some have been happy with them, some think they are junk. I do not believe that trail gears stuff is made "in the same factory" as the stock gears. (and I've never heard that as an assertion), but in any case I prefer Trail Tough. That's what I've spent my money on.

C) kbjimny - it sound like you have a "rock lobster" case, which uses a combination of welded together stock gears.

D) I think the 4.16 gear set from Trail gear is also welded. If you want to 100% avoid welded gears, I think you might need to look to more reduction than 4.16.

My gears are Trail Tough.
Don't think Vits have other options.
Not sure what option Sierra/Sammy gears come in.

Cheers for the feedback

I will have a look at trail tough gears, they might be a good option.

The reason why i dont wont welded gears is due to my current gear set braking under normal driving conditions (havn't even been offroad yet) and all i can put it down to is the weld has weakened the metal. Hence the reason why im trying to find a billet set.

As for gears with more reduction- Im only running a 29" tyre and dont really plan on going any bigger in the future.

Sorry for any confusion.
I didn't realise Lowrange Sierra gears were not Trail Tough, as the Vit ones are.
Have bought stuff directly from Trail Tough before.
I have no complaints about thier service.
It is Trail Tough Rock Monster gears that I researched,
don't know if all thier gears are manufactured in same place.
