LWB or SWB?
For a 91 SWB vitara that is spot on if everything is stock - My gearing calculator gives me 3694 rpm @ 100km/h
The easiest way to lower highway revs is to fit taller tyres. Swapping to 29 inch tall tyres, for instance, would drop your highways revs to 3300rpm.
However, you might find that this is a net loss - acceleration will suffer, and fuel consumption will likely go up because you will be "lugging" the engine more to hold speed and kicking down into 2nd more often to maintain speed.
If it's a LWB, those figures are out. the AW-4 automatic in the lwb should cruise at about 3250 rpm by my calculations. The added power of the 16V motor and lockup torque converter of the AW-4 allow more efficient cruising.

Thanks Steve she's a SWB just wanted to know if this was the norm do the manuals have the same cruising rpm as the auto she's a great machine my first Suzi. I bought her as a get to work vehicle I live in Gorae near Portland vic and only travel 11k to and from work through Skippy country she has a nice big bullbar its about time I had a win for a change...Jason aka (Poss)

As your first Suzuki you problem see the high revs as a problem, as Steve said it's the opposite. Suzuki's love to rev, the torque band is up there and they cruise nicely above 3000rpm. You will be very unlikely to gain any mileage by lowering the revs. perhaps a small tyre increase may help a tiny bit being an auto (not sure if overdrive?) but it would be marginal. You're better off giving it a good service and keeping an eye on tyre pressures.
