Thanks for all the info.

Greg - I might come along to the next meeting. Next Wednesday?

Dan - I like 'tuff dog' because they seem to be really good and I can get them at a really good price; although the Dobinsons sound interesting too.
I will give you a call over the next week or so.

I just read your post and though you may still want some ideas.

I have an 02 XL7 that I have lifted 35mm. All I did was install Vitara spring spacers for $6o on ebay and a set of lovell gas legend long travel rear shocks for about $280 a pair. they come with 3 year 70000k warranty and are available from 4wd direct. they have an extra inch of cylinder travel and will be good up to 50mm of lift.

The spring spacers need to be modified, you will need to shave about 10mm off the outside diameter surface for them to fit in the front recess at the top, the inside diameter is OK. The rears need about an extra 5mm of high density non compressible rubber added to the inside sleeve to fit properly, easy to do. this will raise the front by 15mm and the rear by 30mm. overall lift is 30mm.

You will also need to consider adjustable front camber bolts on the struts as the camber will max out after about 35mm of lift on Mac Pherson struts and you will wear your tyres out on the outside, especially when turning tight. camber bolts $90 a set on 4wd direct. Be careful with front CV joints riding to high out of front diff, if you go to high they can easily pop out

I don't do a lot of serious off road work, but this is more than adequate for all the places Ive been in the high country. It also wont upset the on road ride to much either. Much cheaper than a full lift kit and much kinder to the grand daddy zook.

I do a lot of 4wd training for Murcotts and the standard recover points are fine if you are careful with your snatch recoveries, but a shackled block in the tow hitch is a much better way to go, get a rated one and check to see if it fits some of the cheap ones are badly made.

Finally take the stupid side steps off as this will reduce ground clearance by 4 inches. (if you haven't done already)

happy modding
