Previous owner of my Vit had 16's fitted.
Unsure if they would fit a GV or not.
Think they were Kings 16 x 7 -12 or -13

All right now we are in business - well at least I think so.
Wreckers are selling OEM Suzuki Grand Vitara Steel rims for $77 each, I am yet to lay my eye on them yet so who knows what they might be like.
But hopefully by Saturday arvo I'll have them with a set of Fedrals fitted and ready to attack the next track.

I think I'd run tubes though to help prevent bead leaks.

With a narrow tyre on a wide rim, it's easy to dig the rim into the ground/rut and push dirt under the bead, especially at reduced tyre pressure. Bead leaks get tiresome, especially as they get worse once the mud dries out and shrinks. At their worst, you'll need to stop every few minutes to air the tyre up.
Running tubes is a good way of ensuring you don't get bead leaks.
It is possible to pinch or wear a hole in a tube, but it's a fairly uncommon occurrence. Also, it is possible for the tyre to spin on the wheel, which will shear the valve stem off the tube, but again, it's a bigger problem at very low pressure (5psi or so) and with the added traction of lockers.
Bead leaks are all too common with tubeless tyres regardless.
Another tubeless problem are bead "burps", where you bump a rut at low pressure and the tyre momentarily lifts off the bead, "burping" air - leading to a lower than anticipated pressure and possible loss of the bead. Again, tubes help to prevent this.
Carry a pair of tyre levers a compressor, and a spare tube and most everything is fixable pretty easily.

I have a feeling the 235/85 R16's will require some flare modification.
When I have my 1999 GV, the 225/75 R16's (29") just rubbed occasionally
From memory, my GV came standard with 235/65 R16's
Still do not recall our model of Grand Vitara's being sold with 15" rims though.
Anyway, it probably is a good idea to get a second set of rims anyway.
I would of, but I could not be stuffed changing rims all the time when I went off road etc.

I think it was Chris that was contemplating 235 85 16's, and they can be made to fit his non GV vitara.
It would be very difficult to run 235 85 16's on a GV due to the size of the rear wheelarch.
