Strange World Trailer Spring Kits

Post by christover1 »

I'm fitting shackle springs, or eye to eyes as sellers prefer, to my trailer, as the slippers are not makin the grade..
Been ebaying, netting and driving round trailer shops.
When asking for a fitting kit, in the place that got my business, I was quoted over $210pr with brackets, shackles, pins etc.
Too pricey for me, but didn't want to trust el cheapo stuff from ebay.
Back to topic.
I said how much for just the springs, which included bushes, as I could make my own mounts etc, I was quoted only $88 the pair.
I said sold, but then he looked up the prices of all the bits separately....it only came to $122 for everything, so I said sold.
Strange World.

Almost as strange as this post?

sorry, read it on outers and read it on here, and either way it doesn't make sense.

Springs, Brackets, shackles, pins = $210
Springs alone = $88 pair
Some other stuff not specified=$122

:?

I got 2 springs, 4 shackle pins with nylok nuts, 4 shackle plates, 2 shackle end to trailer mounts, and 6 bushes. As separate, spare parts items, they added up to $122.

The springs alone were $88 a pair, with all 4 bushes.

As a kit with all that included, they cost $210.
(probably included front mount also?)

No it don't make sense to me either :?
But I'm happy.

Kind of like some things in the supermarket where people assume that just because you are buying more of something that it means it must be cheaper when it isn't always the case. People "assume" too much sometimes without actually checking properly to make sure. I used to come across all sorts of weird price inconsistencies when going through parts pricing in a previous life. It can pay big time to check the "same" parts from different models/years etc or as you have found putting them together from individual components. At the end of the day you've had a nice win
