Rod and I had a very good trip into the Big Desert and Border Track. The weather was fine and warm.....until Sunday afternoon about camp time.
Camped Sunday at Red Bluff. Started raining about 4.00pm and rained all night and all Monday.
But, we found and drove some really good desert tracks. Milmed Rock Tk, Cactus Bore Tk and Coburns Tk. All sand, with many dune crossings and many side tracks.
Made a bush camp on Cactus Bore Tk Saturday night. Magnificent sunset, full moon rise...magnificent sunrise and full moon setting.
Did some really fun dune crossings on Coburns Tk with fine views across the Desert in every direction.
Made the mistake of not researching fuel availability .....no fuel in Murrayville.

Then onto the famous Border Tk. It was very rutted in places and the sand was dry and powdery. Much more difficult than my last 2 times I have been there. The deep ruts and huge corrugations made it impossible to get any momentum. Several of the climbs took a few goes, eventually I had to go down to 8psi with both diffs locked and search for traction. Rod as low a tyre pressure as he dared in his Triton.
The area around Cactus Bore Tk and Coburns Tk looks like a great place to make a day camp and then have fun driving the harder side tracks.
A plan for another desert adventure
