Also how many of you are camping around jamieson on the friday night, were gunna head up there and camp on the friday if anyone else is keen
Re: 27th - 30th/Aug 2015 - Snow Trip
We will be heading up mid Friday afternoon. We are not too keen to camp at Lake Eildon boat ramp; so I was thinking we would go past Jamieson to one of the campsites towards Kevington, then Saturday AM come back to Jamieson to meet everyone at 9:00am.
My mobile is 0411989000 (Floptus) and I will be on channel 18.
If anyone needs any camping gear let me know we have spares.

I belive Jono, Jon D and myself are planning to head up around jameison on the Friday night. I'd be keen to meet up to camp, I'm not overly attatched to the boat ramp, pretty sure I nearly froze to death last year! If you know any camping spots around there I'd be open to hearing them.

Looks like this will be more of a high country camping trip than a snow trip, apparently Mt Skene is looking pretty bare at the moment.

Something I tend to do is keep an eye on the Mt Buller cams on the website
The ski slopes for Buller are irrelevant but the toboggan run and the village photos are the same altitude as the summit of Skene and not too far as the crow flies. Just don't confuse what's come out of the snow making machines. Normally I find when there's not much snow apart from machine snow, 90% of the time you don't need 4wd to get over Skene. Might be snow there but not enough for a good play. Just a rough guide.
I can do that with Mt Terrible and Mt Margaret as well. The Lake Mountain carpark cam on the website is the same altitude as the summit of Terrible and not far as the crow flies just down into Big River and up the other side. When there's lots of snow in the Lake Mountain carpark and recent compulsory chains, I normally find it on Terrible and normally find some sort of snow between Cumberland Junction and Matlock, even just patchy. On a day of compulsory chains at Lake Mountain, I just about always find snow needing 4wd on Mt Margaret just beside it.
If doing a high country trip in summer, I check the ski resort websites like Buller and Hotham a couple of times per day the week or 2 prior and get a rough idea what the weather's been like.
I don't treat it as gospel, just a rough guide.
Ski hires in Narby and Marysville work on the theory that if Melbourne has a forecast of showers and 12 or 13 degrees or colder, normally that means snow on Lake Mountain. I've noticed that theory normally works.
