As suspected, there is a lot of bonnet/intake interference with my swap.
I removed the breather pipe (which now doesn't fit tightly, so will have to JB weld it) and the bonnet is still a good 40+mm away from closing. I'll cut out a section of bracing but it looks like the rear and front of the intake are still going to contact the bonnet.
Has anyone used hilux engine mounts? If so, how much do they lower the engine by and what modifications need to be made?
I only want to lower the drivers side and unless they drop the engine by 20mm or more it looks like I'm going to have to install a bonnet scoop until I can do a body lift.

Re: Bonnet clearance
You should be able to get it low enough to not have to body lift or use a scoop.
I lowered one of my mounts of the chassis to gain clearance, it's still tight, but it fits.
If you don't want to cut the mounts off, Jono165 got adaptor mounts (trail tough?) That made the engine clear without a body lift

Re: Bonnet clearance
I would rather not cut the mounts off the frame as I am pretty much finished, just need to put the dash back, bleed the master cylinder and mount the air box properly.
I had a look at the trail tough, petroworks and zor motorboat mounts. I like the idea and price of the ZOR motorboats but I'm not sure how well they will work IRL and how an engineer would feel about them if I go that path in the future. They also say you HAVE to have a spring lift for the sump to clear the diff, but that may be using the G16 sump. I'll email them and get more info.
I haven't paid that much attention to intake height on other vehicles prior to now, but from the few pics I've seen it looks like the GV intake is slightly taller than the Balenos and Vits.

Re: Bonnet clearance
Find a baleno intake?
Re: Bonnet clearance
I haven't compared a baleno intake, but if all the other little differences are any kind of indication something like the tps won't be compatible.
I might go to imlachs tomorrow to look for a slightly shorter intake hose, in which case I'll measure a baleno intake and see if it's a possible option.

Re: Bonnet clearance
What engine mounts are you currently using?
I can't see whyan engineer would have an issue with an engine mount being moved, as long as it's tested it should be fine.
i believe that Jon is running no, or a negligible amount of spring lift and doesn't have any issues with sump clearance. He did have some dramas getting aextractors to fit though.

Re: Bonnet clearance
Try a vit rubber one side with sierra the other, may just tip it enough to help. I have one vit engine mount spare if you want to try

Re: Bonnet clearance
Everything is basically stock, except for a trail tough adapter on the drivers side, but that is basically stock, just with a relocated hole for the G16. With the current setup everything fits well including the factory exhaust manifold, except the bonnet and I had to lift the radiator 10mm to fit the clutch fan. My original plan was to just use a bonnet scoop, but now I don't like that idea.lbzook wrote:What engine mounts are you currently using?
I have emailed ZOR about the motor boat mounts that replace the cast mounts on the block. In the meantime I will make some rhs mounts and see if I can come up with anything.
Thanks Chris. Would you mind measuring the height of it? If it is more than a few mm different it might be worth a try.christover1 wrote:Try a vit rubber one side with sierra the other, may just tip it enough to help. I have one vit engine mount spare if you want to try
