April 2015 - Stratford to Walhalla High Country (was Caledonia River) Trip - Easy.

REVISED TRIP.
This trip was originally scheduled for April 2015 but cancelled due to extreme weather.
I drove the Caledonia River Tk with luigi last year and decided it was too rough, tough & time consuming for a high country tour as intended. So the route will be as below, and hopefully attract more starters.
TRIP TITLE.
Stratford to Walhalla via Mt Wellington = Easyish.
TRIP DATES.
Weekend April 2015.
Victorian High Country - Gippsland.
TRIP DESCRIPTION.
Day 1 - Meet at Stratford Park at 8:30am for briefing then a 9:00am start.
Stratford to Briagalong then follow the Marathon Rd to Valencia Creek Track then Pleydells Track to Old Moroka Road.
Left onto Moroka Range Track to Mt Wellington.
Back on the Mt Wellington Track then left onto the Moroka Road to Arbuckle Junction.
Right at Arbuckle junction onto the Howitt Road to Guys Hut or Howitt Hut for an overnight camp.
Day 2 - Exit camp about 8:30am onto Tamboritha Rd to Licola.
Follow the Heyfield Rd to Cheynes Bridge. Right turn & follow Cheynes Track to Black Range Track then left to Bark Hut Track crossover McEvoys Track onto Fultons Track then left onto Binns Track to Walhalla. If time permits an alternative track to Walhalla may include Donellys Track.
Easy drive then from Walhalla to Moe Via Rawson for petrol then home via Princes Hwy to Melbourne.

The trip has a few steep ups & downs but generally suitable for Sierra's & Vitara's with AT tyres as a minimum.

Petrol - at Stratford, Licola, Rawson & Moe.

Ref: Rooftop Maps - Dargo - Wonnangatta & Walhalla - Woods Point. All cars need to carry extra fuel.

Count me in for this one. It will a month before we hit the Simpson so it will be a good test for the car after the maintenance currently underway.

I saw a car just like yours on Canterbury road in Melbourne today. In fact I saw it twice, heading east in the morning and west in the evening. By any chance was that you are do you have a twin?

Thanks for the update Richard. I am still in. I will bring my chainsaw as Tony will not be along for this one (I will put the pod back on the roof). I will probably book a Cabin at the Stratford caravan park to avoid the early Saturday morning start.

I am in for this trip too. Any trip into the high country is a good trip.
I reckon we should certainly start planning a trip into the Caledonia River at another date.
