gold

Post by pezz »

Im looking at building a gold sluice, and I've been tipped off they may be a prospector here
I have some ideas of what I want to build, but it would be good to bounce some ideas around and absorb some wisdom

Hi Fellas.
Sluice boxes are legal. Even powered sluices. That is a sluice that uses a pump, as long as it is fed by hand. ( shovel )
Eductor dredges are highly illegal. The one we saw on the Thompson river was an eductor dredge. An eductor dredge is basically an underwater vacuum cleaner.
There are lots of different types of sluice box designs , most work very well. And they are simple and easy to make. A sluice box needs flowing water. They are set up in creeks and rivers. They work best if you classify (sieve) the material before you put it thru the box.
Powered sluices are also called hydraulic concentrators or bank sluices. They are good if you don't have flowing water. That is if you are using a dam or water hole for your water supply.
In my experience the best allrounder for Australian conditions is the rocker box, also known as a cradle. Its great advantage is it only needs a small amount of water.
Hope that answers a few questions. Happy to talk prospecting, Pezz. Call me 0419539264
Regards, Wayne.
