28-31-Aug-2014 - Snow Trip - All Standards

Post by Greg »

Hi Team,

To get the ball rolling for the 2014 snow trip action, please reply to this post and answer all of the questions at the bottom.

This information will allow us to determine how many beds / cabins we need to book at the caravan park on each night and we will also be able to confirm that we have acceptable numbers for a convoy of climbers and descenders each day (min 3, max 10). i.e. if less than 3 people want to descend on a day, then this convoy cannot happen.

The dates in question are:

28-August - Thursday
29-August - Friday
30-August - Saturday
31-August - Sunday

A reminder of the standard format of the weekend:

We generally have two groups:

1. The Crusty Snow Campers - this group climb the mountain on Friday to get the best chance of fresh snow and clear roads. If the weather is nice, snow camping on Friday night. Wait for the Saturday climbers to arrive on Sat morning. Day trip in the snow on Saturday. The Saturday night is either more snow camping, or descend to Jamieson for dinner at the pub or a long drive back to Melbourne.

2. The Normal People - this group climb the mountain on Saturday and risk encountering the crowds on the climb. Day trip with the Crusty Snow Campers on Saturday afternoon. The Saturday night is either camp in the snow, or descend to Jamieson for dinner at the pub or a long drive back to Melbourne.

As you can see - there are a few variable in the above group options, hence the questionnaire.

Please select from the following options (you can pick more than one if you are flexible)

Climbing and Descending Options:
1. Climbing the mountain on
a. FRIDAY
b. SATURDAY

2. Descending the mountain on
a. FRIDAY
b. SATURDAY
c. SUNDAY

Accommodation Requirements:
1. I need accommodation on
a. THURSDAY
b. FRIDAY
c. SATURDAY
d. SUNDAY
e. I WILL BOOK MY OWN

I'm a YES!!

I don't see me having any trouble getting my car on the road by then, it will be stock as a rock and probably on borrowed tires, but I should be there!

1a 2c I will be in the crusty snow camping group.

It only takes 10 days to acclimatise right..?

I would like to climb the mountain Saturday and descend on Saturday as well. I will book a room at the pub (probably at Kevington - always wanted to stay there) for two nights so won't need you to book anything for me or at least that is my plan. Looks like the road between Jamieson and Kevington is reasonable and only 11 km.

I would not recommend chains under any circumstances. I've been doing this trip for over 20 years. Chains suck.
