No, it's a Vit one with Rockrats boot slightly modded to fit.

It's partly because I could :mrgreen: and it has worked out pretty cheap especially as he threw the boot in too because he thought he kept me waiting a bit for it. There are times when it is easier to maneuver in 2L than in 4L and sometimes you just need to kick the back end around a bit to get the right line and I thought due to the low cost why not try it out. I'm still keen on the rear disconnect too. Speaking of which, Steve do you think it could be operated by a solenoid instead?

I don't think a solenoid would do it. Acutally, maybe it would, but the action is quite firm, so it would need to be a beefy solenoid. (maybe too beefy for practical car use?)

The other issue with a solenoid in this application is that as there's no syncro, you sort of need to "feel" or "bump" the disconnect back in to rear drive. Packing it up with grease would help this but then it would attract grit and dust. The teeth are quite coarse so it can take a fair amount of movement to get re engagement. I know solenoids can deal with this, but getting the whole thing working smoothly enough could be a challenge. Yuri 4X4 use air actuators, and I think this might be a better option for the application.

PS I think that's the least of your problems with setting up a TT disconnect - I think you'd need a new output shaft on your transfer to mimic the configuration of the sierra transfer, along with the bolt pattern welded onto your alloy case. (or a bolted adapter) I don't think there's enough advantage in a disconnect to warrant all the work.

In fact, It might be easier to put a sierra transfer in a vitara than set up a sierra disconnect on a vitara case.

Or you could try Yuri 4X4, they may be able to help.

The output shaft is not really an issue for me as I already have it drilled and tapped for a SYE. The work will be in modding the mounting bracket to suit the Vit t-case. It's doable but would be a little bit of mucking around.

Hmmm.... I think you need to have a good look at a TT disconnect. The nut that retains the flange in the stock sierra application is replaced with a super custom nut that actually forms the shaft the flange support bearing sits on. It's uber custom. There'd be some very tricky machining to get around that problem. Like I said, possible, but I'm not sure its worth the effort.

IMHO one of the advantages of the TT disconnect is that the whole thing can be swapped out in minutes if it gives trouble. Doing a lot of messing around and potentially ending up with miles of custom work to fit one seems to work against that a bit.

Well I finally got the t-case with the crawler gears in to the Vit yesterday and fitted the twinstick. It is kinda cool 8-) and I'm pretty happy with it plus I have the boots all sorted too.
