Went for a wheel yesterday up in Wombat, managed to actually find some mud in amounts all the dust.
I also found a big enough bog hole to get stuck in and seriously test out my winch and more importantly my bull bar mounts.
So that's all fantastic what wasn't so fantastic was that I had an idle issue all day.

Basically the idle jet is blocked. Highway driving is no issue at all but the second you stop everything dies.
I found a post on auszookers while I was diagnosing road side about swapping the plug leads on 2 and 3 which
causes a backfire which blows out the crap blocking the jet. That worked like a charm but needless to say 5 minutes
down the road and the jet is blocked up again. In the end I gave up trying to fix it and just drove all day with autostop.

Is my only option to pull the carby apart and rebuild it or is there anything I can easily try first.

Off roading can shake up the crap in the fuel tank,
so I'd make sure entire fuel system is clean,
including lines and tank,
fuel filters changed,
add a fuel filter after fuel pump before carby,
new fuel pump is also wise
(old ones drop bits of diaphragm into fuel)
Then do a carby kit, or you'll just push crap thru it again.

All of the above! I fixed alot of my fuel issues when I was carby with a mini fuel filter just before the carby. It turned out in the end that the diaphragm in the mechanical fuel pump was disintegrating from age and little bits of rubber were blocking the jet and causing the blokage so check your fuel pump as well.

Seeing as this is now the random tech thread, I'll weigh in. :D

Brad, if you don't know how old your fuel pump is, replace it with a new, suzuki genuine one. They're about $130, but worth every cent. Otherwise drain out and blow through the float bowls, wash everything down so it's spotless, and put a filter between the pump and carby.

Should be fine.

I wouldn't really recommend pulling the carby down. I think that's a slippery slope from there to an EFI conversion :D

Thanks steve. Seems pointless to do a whole heap of work on something that will get replaced entirely.
If I can't fix it easily, maybe this will be the motivation I need to actually do the conversion.

can we sure up numbers and names for this trip with peoples full first and last names so I can ensure everyone on the trip is insured through 4wd VIC.
Also, someone tell Michael that he will need to cough up $10 on the day and complete a temporary membership form unless he is insured under another club etc.
