Twinsticks

Steve, have you got both a Vit and a Sierra t-case to compare? Could the t-case shifter boot http://www.izook.com/tech/samurai/drive ... /twins.htm for the Sierra be used or adapted to be used on the Vit t-case? I know a glove could be used but this boot would be nice.

Apparently the twinstick t-case boot for the Sierra should work for the Vit with about a 5 minute mod according to Rockrat who is out of stock of them at the moment but they are due in a couple of weeks. I've got a couple of guys in the US (Mike Hagen and his buddy Stan who makes the Vit twinsticks) who are waiting on the boots to try them out and make sure that they will work in our application. Hopefully it will all work.

Sorry I didn't get back to you about the boot sizing - I'm only getting into the shed on W/E atm so I missed my chance.

If the boot also works for sierra, then that sorts out Mugginsmoo's twinstick too, which means I can also get one :mrgreen: Yay! more sticks to play with! *confusion*

benifit? in cant see the point of 2low in the rear. I could kinda understand if it was front wheel drive. so you can do a burn out and turn the car on the spot? on 34" swampers with a 660?

or is it just about keeping things interesting when the tracks not hard enough, in which case I would have reservations about the extra wear and tear on tracks as a result.

Sam,

You're mostly right - there's very little real point, but then there's very little real point in a disconnect too, but it is fun to experiment with, in some situations there are still things to learn from noodling about with lots of silly drive options.

The real point of twin sticks is in cases like Atlas and NP205 where front rear and 4WD can be selected on one stick and H-N-L on the other, but I can see some (small) advantages in maneuverability with 2 low.

Yes, in some low traction situations and a rear locker, it will allow the car to be "turned" with a clutch dump
The prevalence of twin sticks for cars with no access to front wheel drive (fo 2 low only) is due to owners with detroits and spools in the front etc on rocks trying to make their cars turn.

I do not support the use of 2WD to make tracks "more interesting" at all.

Plus, having 4 levers in the cab with no shift patterns on them is too cool ( gearbox/2X transfer/Disconnect)

I guess that it comes down to wanting to have more stuff to fiddle with. I guess the opposite would be a car with twin detroits, an auto, and a stock geared transfer case - if you can't just boot it through, there's not much to play with.
