Hi,

I have a 2005 Grand Vitara running the standard HT tyres. I have read about others dropping their tyre pressures when on dirt roads. This is something I have never worried about over here in Tas but is it necessary when travelling long distances on corrugated roads? If so what sort of pressure drop for differing types of non bitumen roads?

Great to see you on the Forum.
I had a 1999 Grand Vitara which is very similar to the 05 models. Suzuki only started to make some big changes from 2006 onwards.
As for the HT. I only had them on the car for 10,000 Km and then through them away and put on BFG 225/70 R16 All Terrains on.

From memory, the tyre placard says run them at 26PSI (normal road pressues).When I had these on the car I ran them at 30PSI. For offroad driving, I dropped them down to 20 PSI or so for offroad use.
Sand You may be able to get away with 15PSI but do not take my word for that.

The Bridgstone HTtyres are not really an off road tyre so, you will not be able to drop the pressures down to much.
The best thing I did for the car was to upgrade to ARB Old Man Emu suppsension. These handled the corrigations extremely well (even at road pressures).
