Been offered this LWB by Aaron from the Geelong club, he bought it for the engine and is now selling the rest.
He says the only real rust is in the left door, left guard and that a plate has been welded near the left hand windscreen wiper.
I am tempted to buy it but think the windscreen rust could be too much drama.

Re: Am I asking for trouble?
If chassis is good, could easily replace or repair body with a cheap 1.0 litre swb donor.

Re: Am I asking for trouble?
That looks pretty good to me.
The windsceen wiper repair is common on these - they normally start off by cracking. This area was beefed up on the 1.3's. A couple of hours to repair.
One thing to check though- look for cracks in the roof. They're prone to cracking at the front and rear edges of the pressed ridges on the roof. It's not a huge deal to repair, but it's annoying.
Doof, Chris's car and Piggles are all cracked in this area.
Also, check for rust around the sills behind the front wheels. Piggles was VERY rusty in this area. It's not a common area for rust but is pretty fiddly to repair - on piggles I cut the whole floor and the inner sills out and replaced them with good ones. If it's lived on a farm there might have been enough mud over the years to fill up this area and cause a problem.
If the price is right go for it- I'd buy it - it looks a lot better than Piggles.
Bear in mind that it's obviously not a runner so the path to getting it out on trips is a big one - you have to work out whether you do the big build from scratch or buy a 1.0 motor or donor car to get it running stock then talk to an engineer. Obviously you can't RWC or register it until you make that descision.
It's definitely the best starting point for a project though - there's very few ADR's to contend with due to it's age and status as a commercial.
Another trayback in the club
PS if you get it and can't face the work I can think of another member who'd be pretty interested...
Steve.

Re: Am I asking for trouble?
I'd say no more than $1k.... but it all depends on how badly you want it.
Mine was $1200 but it was a matching #'s car that was running and 100% complete, so even though it was rough, I had something I could easily RWC.
Doof was $300 when Mock originally bought it (but it was pretty rough and I think the motor was shot)
I think Chris's car was just over the $1000 mark when Muggins originally bought it, as a complete runner.
I'd offer about $750 and see if how you go. Complete, RWC and running it's probably worth $2500 in vic as a stocker. A motor is about $1500 with a light reco, it needs a gearbox and seats and the rust fixed for a RWC so it's hard to see it being worth more than $1k as it stands.
*edit* unless you really want it.... then it's worth a kidney, or your first born, or something.

Re: Am I asking for trouble?
It comes with the seats, a spare windscreen and front bar and I think there is a gearbox but I'm not 100% sure
What is the overall length of a lwb, I'm going to look at it tomorrow but don't know if it will fit in a truck (I don't think it will) or if I will need to borrow a trailer too.
If anybody wants to come with me let me know, I'm leaving Cheltenham around 15:30

Dont waste your money, you'll blow 10 -15K easy. Buy something newer. Saw a 100 series cruiser that was stock for 15K, that would do a hell of lot even in stock form. It depends on what you want. Those that say they can build a weapon for under 10K are full of it IMO.

I threw out my calculator ages ago - it kept producing numbers that just MUST BE WRONG...... there'sbillbarbas wrote: Those that say they can build a weapon for under 10K are full of it IMO.
no way I could have spent that much time or $$ on a Feroza let alone a "weapon".
Now where did I put that blasted credit card ?
