Engine finaly died.
Looking for a G13 or a G16
Carby models with auto could be nice.
Will consider 4K or 5K Corrolla conversion, if auto.
Open to other (cheapish) conversion ideas.
Preferably whole cars, so have all needed bits.
I am limitted in tools and abilities, so needs to be simplish, like me :)

I agree, I'm not into spending too much time in the garage, especially in Winter.

But am going into think mode, seeing as the time has come to change something.

In a Corrolla search today, I've learnt that they are no longer in good supply, so it would be a backward step. As well as being a lower tech motor.

Have heard suggestions of Gemini Auto being slotted in, so will muse over that now. Image

There is another carby auto Vit there too that Steve mentioned last week that was still fairly intact at the time.

Pick-a-part always seems to have a few swifts in it. what's gone? If it's bottom end only it should be pretty cheap to swap in a C/O bottom end. You can get warranty too from them.

I think the auto conversion, nice as it would be, would be a fair amount of work - tunnel will need work, kickdown cable (VERY important on a trimatic) tailshaft housing, jackshaft modification, ($120 - $200) and apparently the trimatic isn't that easy to reverse-adapt onto a 1.3, so you're up for a 1.6 bottom end too - much dearer (and a block that's got a nasty habit of cracking between the welch plugs, plus oil pickup pulleys etcetcetc.

The Gemini motor is a good one - 1.6/1.8/2.0/2.0efi turbo/2.2/2.6/2.6efi (and maybe others) are all interchangeable, but the auto is, I think, a jatco and these have a long tailshaft housing and no short option like with a vitara. Rod McCormick from total 4WD had a 2.6 carby one in his sierra "rodified" and it had plenty of grunt.

I'm guessing a valve/head/rocker issue, slowly lost power, then started missing on what felt like one cylinder, then two. There was a deisel rattle in the top somewhere (cant trust my ears, but ruffly) at the top of a big hill. I thought it was the altitude. Could have a broken ring, too. Went out in style, tho, great trip.
Its been smoking and getting slower, and leaking and rattling from many places, for quite some time.
I've lost faith in it, cant see my self fixing it.
Gearbox has been reliable, but is also leaking a lot now, so time has come.
From what you say, I've gone off the 1.6 vit idea now.
A 1.3 has presented itself, but I'm not that otivated for it, unless its a great price.
Gemini is winning on price and existence over corollas.
But would need to be auto for me to bother.
This is an auto from a gem on escam.
If it helps. It looks fittable.
I'd grab a whole car, tho, so I get all the bits I need.

Also I should consider wether my power steering pump and 110 amp alternator will be wasted or not.
And not a fan of thermo fans

This is a gem box for sale, looks longer than the auto, but hard to say.

If I do the gemini auto thing, I'd probably swap front and rear tailshaft positions, to gain the t-case position needed, with less expense..maybe
