I received a newsletter from DELWP which also had some interesting info on firewood theft. Apparently it is a thing and $60,000 has been delt out in fines from the Courts:
This year our Authorised Officers are continuing to detect, investigate and prosecute firewood theft through Operation Hollows with Parks Victoria and Forest Fire Management Victoria, and we’re also calling on the public to collect firewood responsibly and report those who break the rules.
Domestic firewood collection from public land is available in designated areas until 30 June. People can collect a maximum of two cubic metres of firewood per person per day and a maximum of 16 cubic metres of firewood per household per financial year. Only fallen timber without hollows can be collected.
