Neerim South tracks

G'day.

Does anyone in the club know what the tracks are like in the Neerim South area ?

The reason I ask this questions, is that my new mechanic I take the GV to, knows the area very well.
From what he says, the tracks are not closed like Gembrook etc. The tracks range from the easy to hard

He is a mad 4WDer like we are so I am sure he would be glad to talk at a club meeting or even show us some tracks in Neerim South.

Are their any easier tracks ?

Yesterday. I did a trip down to Neerim South with my mechanic.

I am glad it was dry as it would have been quit extreme if it was wet.

I was the only Suzuki..

1. V6 Suzuki GV
2. Hilux
3. GQ Nission Patrol
4. 100 Series Landcrusier

Did tracks

Young Track
Wild Track (Maybe know as Fergusons' ?)
Suckling Track
Wild Bull Track
Tolleys Track.

There may be others tracks but I do not know the names.

Some very steep hill climbs, but the GV performed very well.
I think the other guys on the trip were impressed with what the GV did.
Although, I must say, I would be stuffed without lockers some of the road/goat tracks were rather rutted.

We visited a HUT down very steep track located on the edge of the La Trobe river... Excellent Fishing etc.
However, the track would be very hard in the wet.

I have this on my GPS, so I could probably find it again.

Why not run a trip ?

I for one would be keen to have a look around down there without the issue of slowing down the hardcore guys.

If its too hard - hell lets drive something else

I do not feel confident leading a trip..

But I would be happy to help out though.

Its not a big step really - especially if your up front about it......

My Avoca trip was a first, and I only had a very general idea of where we were going.
Managed to get "sidetracked" between Avoca and the air down point - but no one got stressed, and I think everyone had a fun day - but it had nothing to do with my leadership skills.

Sure we get spoiled by the few trip leading professionals who know every square inch of their chosen destination, but many of our trips are based on "lets have a look" - Christmas Camp, Little Desert. Robe, Big Dessert, High Country, Border Track, Avoca etc etc....... Mt Cole is a future candidate on pretty much the same basis - seems interesting on the map - lets have a look !

Bill is developing some experience in the area - maybe a Jeep outing for him rather than the Sierra. Or a Sierra outing that doesn't involve recovery of broken vehicles

Most of the time "trip leading" seems to be more about someone saying "why don't we go here ?" and others chipping in.

Once you have led your first trip you'll wonder why you weren't so confident. Really it's just a bunch of friends going for a drive with one person having a little more input than the rest. Pretty much every trip I have run has been on the "let's go explore" principle, think Xmas Camp . Another option is to have someone jump in with you to help out if you feel you need it or may be even jump in with someone who is leading a trip to see just what is involved.

I would be happy leading the trip.
The only issue is what happens if I get bogged and I am the first car.

The track called young track is a bit of a beast if it is wet.
This would be Adventure tour stuff when it is wet.

Anyway.. Sounds good.
