I really dislike those Chinese made jerry cans. I'm not sure if Aussie Disposals still carry them but years ago I bought two ex German Army surplus cans from them. They are approximately 1000% better quality than the chinese stuff. I recall them being in the $40 range (each)
Bingo - just searched them:

I'd happily pay the extra $10 for the real thing. They're thicker, seal better, are better painted inside and out, and have really cool little tags that identifies the product in them. Oil/Diesel/Petrol

I got 1 from Autobaun and 1 from Bunnings, at that time both were Aus made. Is a common business practice to sneak inferior products into line up. I like the pressure lock better on my Autobaun jerry.

the seals in the German jerry cans is also a billion times better than the Chinese copy, garenteed that you'll have to replace the seal from new and then you'll be "in" for the same amount as the German cans anyway.
I have three of these, and I've played them on their side when full without leeks.
I'm with Steve on these spend a little more and you'll win in the end. the last ones I got from Aussi didn't have the "tags" but are the same cans, NATO have moved away from the tags and are now using "stickers" as far as I can tell

My German cans can pinball about in the back of the defender full of petrol and there's never any odour or leakage.
