Nasty knock / rattle
Hi all. Almost had the sj50 with the 1.6 EFI conversion ready for a test drive. All I did was turn around in the driveway. Now I have a loud rattle coming from the area of the fly wheel. I'll see if the starter is slipping on the teeth but I fear I'll need to.drop out the gearbox. It may be a loose bolt or something bouncing around. It improves with clutch pedal in. Anyone had this before? Any suggestions? Thanks.
Re: Nasty knock / rattle
sounds like loose flywheel/flexplate bolts is a possibility, or a dead thrust bearing pulling the gearbox (or engine) will be the way to go..

Cool. Thanks.

Re: Nasty knock / rattle
Some after market starters need shimming to prevent ring gear noises. Worth checking.
Also a crook or loosew engine, gearbox mount can make severe noises

Thanks Chris. I'll make sure I check all that too. Engine was running fine the last few times.

Pulled out the transmission. That's an easier job than I thought. Found a few loose flywheel nuts. Have torqued em up as per spec. Now to clean the tub while it's accessible and then put it back together. Very happy it was just a newb mistake. Hopefully she still runs fine.
