Wonnangatta and Surrounds 16 to 18 January 2016
Posted: Mon 09 Nov, 2015 7:24 pm
This year I am planning a three day trip but the third day will be optional.
Day 1
Meet at Licola by 11.00am. (Minimum 3 hour drive from Melbourne)
Drive into the Wonnangatta valley (about 3 hours from Licola) with a lunch stop when we get to Zeka Spur
Explore some of the tracks to the North of Wonnangatta if time permits
Camp in the Wonnangatta
Day 2
Head North from Wonnangatta and do a loop around to Talbotville
Drive up to Blue Rag via Basalt Knob track if time permits.
At this point those who need to return to Melbourne can depart via Dargo
Camp at Talbotville or Grant
Day 3
Head back to Billy Goat Bluff and tackle it the hard way going up this time.
Then back to Melbourne either via Licola or Briagalong
The minimum requirements for this trip are all terrain tyres and an efficient cooling system. Some experience with steep ascents and descents would be desirable. All vehicles need to be in good condition because it will be difficult to tow anyone out of this country. Extra fuel should be carried especially for those joining for all three days.
As with all high country trips the dates are subject to change depending upon weather conditions including fire alerts. (Sometimes there are many changes).
Please express interest in this trip so we can see how many cars might be participating. There will be a limit of 8 but 6 would be a more comfortable maximum.
Anyone wanting to take part in the trip planning expedition can let me know at the meeting this week or by posting below.
