Hi Fellas.
I will be doing a gold prospecting field day on Sunday Oct 25 at Hawthorn Ck. We will meet at Hawthorn Ck Bridge about 9.00am. It is near Neerim Sth on the Latrobe River. Hawthorn Ck bridge is well marked on google earth. Or can someone who has a GPS post the co-ordinates up?
I will cover where to look for gold and why gold concentrates in certain areas in the creek bed. I will demonstrate how to use a gold pan, river sluice and rocker box (cradle).
Anyone who wants to participate will need a gold pan, a spoon (a desert spoon is ok) a screwdriver, a small garden trowel is also useful and a spade. Also a small bottle or similar to put your gold in.
You will definitely need some gumboots or thigh waders. NO BARE FEET! (SERIOUSLY) or you will spend all day pulling leeches off your legs and might get bitten by a snake. You will certainly get bitten by something! Also, don't forget the Aerogard!
The law says everyone fossicking for gold should have a Miners Right. They are cheap and easy to get online.
I know a few members are interested in electronic prospecting (metal detecting for gold).
If there is enough interest I can do a presentation on detecting at the Nov meeting and do a field day detecting in the golden triangle later.
Regards, Wayne.

Hi Fellas.
I am postponing this trip to Sunday Nov 15.
It was too short notice for Oct 25.
Anyone interested, the details are in the members section.

Re: Gold Panning Field Day.
Hi Wayne.
Count me in for this one. Can you be more specific about the Hawthorn Creek Bridge. Does it cross the Hawthorn Creek. Is it on the Hawthorn Creek Road or does it cross the La Trobe River on some other road?
Thanks
Mike?
