2 pinion carrier WT Sierra seems identical to Vit front.

Post by christover1 »

When I tried to fit a Sierra diff to my Vitara front,
it would not work because drivers side cv/axle would not fit without turning out of the Sierra carrier.
It was a 4 pinion.
I have no idea if it was a front or rear diff from the Sierra.

I scored a WT Sierra front 22 spline diff with a lock right fitted. (Thanks Leigh :)
Upon measurings and test fitting of the Vitara CV/axle, it appears the carriers are identical.
Even has the cotter pin to locate the diff cross pins.
Makes sense they would share parts among the different models.
(or somebody fitted a Vitara carrier to a widetrack?)

Plan is to fit the WT carrier with my Crown wheel and refit to my front diff.
Thus not having to disturb the set up of the locker.
(The Spartan locker let me down again, one side sticks in unlocked position when it wants to)

Can anyone tell me if I am wrong or right before I get stuck into it.
(Will now have to defer air locker to rear for a bit, Vitaras need front drive to be useful)

I finished fitting the new 2nd hand auto locker today.
Carrier did fit, though it was probably a carrier from a Vit, that had been fitted to a WT Sierra.
Now I am glad the old locker broke down, this one is so much better.
Very smooth operation, no clunks, bangs or handling issues.
Maybe its better because of the brand, or because of the couplers, or because it was set up by not me, or my original Spartan was faulty or fitted wrongly by me?
Had a 2nd hand lock rite front in my Sierra, which never failed and the rear lock rite fitted to my Vitara lasted me 5 years, plus whatever time Daryl had it fitted for.
Time will tell, but happy so far.

Still don't know about this, I'm sure it was a sierra carrier, I can't see someone removing a sierra carrier to fit a Vitara carrier with sierra lockrite in it. Jonno could probably settle this once and for all, the diff got locked in the first place when his mate owned the car

I bet suzuki just started sharing parts among the models. I love a mystery

Now to start on rear locker and transfer case bearings.

I can ask him, or better still i can ask the guy who fitted the locker but I am sure he just fit a sierra locker to a sierra 3rd, is that the question?

Close enough.
Basically wondering if Suzuki shared the front diffs/carriers between Vits and Sierras when they went 2 pinion front.
Its in and working now, could be a useful bit of info for Vit owners.
Means I can grab the widetrack 2 pinion fronts that Sierra owners throw out.
Sierra owners chase after 4 pinion carriers mostly.
