Chinasoong Air Locker

Post by christover1 »

I loved the rear spool off road, but not so good on road for the Vitara.
So I got a loan (interest free) and took a gamble on a Chinasoong.
Was impressed how fast they got it to my door.
I started a post because a few people that are considering one wanted running reports.
So I'll stick anything in here that happens.

There was a rather large amount of dog fluff, dust and sand under the centre console.

I got to hear brrrdbrrrrd sound from the compressor today, and a small psst from the locker port.

Was a bit disheartening at first try as nothing happened, a faulty relay supplied was the issue.

Deciding where to put a hole for the airline took longer than expected.
The newer RD 204 has the air input on opposite side, making inner airline tube a challenge.
And it was scary drilling the hole, knowing only had one shot :)
Couldn't use the top of diff, the A-arm ball joint and spacer were in the way.
Further forward at top was a possibility, but the bend needed in tube, and lack of space made that less appealing.
This spot has the tube fitting flat and in protected spot, with room to navigate the inner bits.
My tap hasn't turned up yet, so can't put it together :(
Paid extra for local seller, thinking that be faster.

New 1/4npt tap finally came, better late then never.
I used my old broken centre (and a yard broom) to help decide where the tubing needed to run.
The tube has a fair bit of movement to allow for.
The air input floats back and forward by design.
And also need to allow for tube to be able to slide through when refitting pumpkin,
though once in it has more room available..
Think I happy with it, will have another think, and check its operation before refitting.

Pumpkin back in place, tube cleared on sliding through, and once in place :)
Damn it weighs much more than it did, good for COG I reckon :)
Had to get creative with straps and jacks as it is now beyond my arms :O
Start on stringing the pretty blue air line tomorrow.

Finally finished.
Happy with the position of the airline at the pumpkin, ties in well with the diff breather line.
Air hose was long enough to do 2 zooks.
Rather than shortening, I thought coil a bit up, in case a break the line underneath.
Just pull it through for a quick fix.
It all is working the way it should,
so now it is just the test of time (and my fitting)
So will report back after it has been well used.
PS thread tape is important, was a few leaks on first test.
