Can I just bang the whole lot in? Even just in the front? Or am I going to have to pull the ring and pinioned off?

It'll fit but I wouldn't think it would last too long. I remember seeing a picture on pirate a while ago with an alloy diff in a samurai and the whole pinion housing ripped out. I'm not sure what your plans are but he alloy diffs are often broken without a locker. Also some are 22 and some are 26 spline centers depending on what axles you choose to run too.

As per Jon. They last slightly better than an alloy diff I. A vitara because the pinion isn't locked down so it doesn't see any physical load on the case. Regardless, it won't last, and when it breaks it's likely to kill the r&p, putting you back to square 1
