Hi Fellas.
I have worked out a fun days driving in the Fryers Ranges. I can run a trip on either the 10th 17th or 24th of November.
Meeting point will be Malmsbury Botanical gardens. 9.30 . One hour up the Calder Hwy. There is a toilet block there and a good takeaway shop. The trip will start at Middletons Ck Glenluce about 6ks out of Malmsbury and finish at Malmsbury.
The tracks are steep and rocky, but my sierra can do them all, so i will rate the trip fun easy. Great for standard cars with good ground clearance and new members.
I will have some video of the terrain up soon.
Any takers? Tell me which date you prefer.

Any date is ok for me, but prefer later in month.
My attendance will depend on car and my condition after cup day weekend trip.

17th might be better for me but I am in trouble for not getting some jobs done around home at the moment. I will have to play it by ear.

Where's that camp ground?

We have a block at Taradale (next town up from Malmsbury) and hadn't seen that one before.

Did find a quartz mine a while ago that was a little different to have a mess around in.

Hi Sierra Jim. The camp ground in the video is on Middletons Creek at Glenluce. You can get to it off Green Gully Rd. It is probably more in the Upper Loddon State forest than Fryers Ranges. But the track was too good to leave out. So I plan to make it our starting and air down point.
If you live at Taradale you probably know the area better than me. How about coming on our trip?

My name is David. I'm 30 yeard old, from Melbourne and I bought a '95 Sierra three years ago. It's an awesome little car, and I love taking it out for adventures. So far I've used it for getting to work, and for accessing mountain-biking and hiking trails. I have virtually no offroad driving experience other than gravel and dirt tracks that could be travelled by any normal vehicle. I would like to do some bigger adventure trips with the car one day too though. The car is completely standard from factory and I was wondering if it would be capable of comfortably making it on this trip The Sierra is my only car and a daily driver so I am looking for something really kind of beginner as I would hate to roll or damage my vehicle due to being too inexperienced or poorly setup for the terrain.

Hi Davidsuzuki. You would be welcome to come on this trip. A stock sierra will be fine. It is most unlikely that you would damage your car and there will be some experienced drivers to help if needed.

I probably won't do this trip now. I am planning to get away for 2 weeks from 25 November and head up to the NT for some warm (very hot) weather. Intend to get to Chambers Pillar, Old Andado Station then up to Alice Springs, then the west McDonnell ranges and the head across the great central road maybe to Warburton but at least as far as Giles weather station and want to check out Lasseter's cave. Might not get all this done and not exactly sure when I will leave but am currently preparing the car for the trip.

The great central road was once a really remote area but now there is a roadhouse every 250km. I want to do it before it turns into bitumen.
