Suzuki 4WD Club of Victoria

I was under the definate impression that my mechanic mate was going to re-fit my timing belt on the baleno engine for me so I made no attempt at marking the crank and cam gears against the block so I could refit the new timing belt.
He will still do that but he won't be back in Melbourne until 2 weeks after I arrive back in Melbourne so I want to try myself.

I have been having a quick look on youtube and auszookers and random suzuki info site but I wanted to run it past you guys as well.

so line the E up, and line the mark on the crank up both facing 12 o'clock to their respective marks and fit and tension the timing belt and away she goes.

while the engine is dead can I rotate the crank and cam to line them up without any issues ? do they both have to be turned clockwise or anticlockwise?
I have probably only turned them 30 degrees max while man handling the engine anyway.

is it safe for me to try this myself ? or should I wait for my mechanic mate to get back in a fortnight?

Have a look in the FSM, there will be a pretty comprehensive description of what's involved, including torque settings etc. With all the info and specs on hand it's a fairly simple job.
