Original Post Deleted and replaced with Steve125's trip details below

TRIP TITLE:
Beachport, South Australia

TRIP DATE:
Saturday 5th to Monday 7th October 2013 (SA Labour Day weekend).

TRIP DESCRIPTION:
Chance to drive the sand dunes around Beachport, as well as drive the beach between Beachport and Robe.

TRIP LOCATION:
Beachport, South Australia, which is around 500km from Melbourne.

TRIP RATING:
Easy to Medium. Never driven sand before so not sure how to rate it. Christover, would you say it was easy or medium?

TRIP MEETING POINT:
Beachport

This trip is proposed as an alternative to the Portland sand dunes. If we can sort out the rollover issue, we'll go to Portland. If Portland is a no go, then we can jump the border into SA. But we would need to make it a 3 day trip at least, 4 days would be better.

Auszookers run a trip to Beachport every SA Labour Day weekend, this year the holiday is on the 7th October. If I can get an idea of how many cars will be coming, I will contact the Auszooker guys and see if we can join in on their trip and maybe camp on the private property they use.

The dunes can be any rating you want, lots of choices from easy to hard.
Lots of ways around the big dunes, and spots to park and watch if wanted.

If we get to use the private camp site, its only 3 minutes from the dunes.
It is a lovely spot. Other clubs use the site, not just AZ.
No amenities, though this could be changing in near future.
Owner has plans for a 4wd park, camping ground set up.

On a recent Limestone Coast trip, found camp sites along Lake George, one with a toilet block,
which is about 5 minuts from Beachport, 20minutes to dunes ish.

Beachport to Robe in my opinion would be medium, as there's less options for going around some challenges.
But I towed the camper through ok ish.

Rollover risk should be discussed before venturing out, as speed and adrenalin can get high.
IE, never drive dunes on angles, only ever straight up or down.
Vigilance is important, as contrast is poor, so dips, bumps, drop offs etc can be hard to make out.
Common sense prevails.
Remember not everyone out there will be driving with common sense.
Change of undies could be wise for dropping down big steep dunes ;)

Sand flags, though not legally mandatory, should be.

OK, Portland seems to be a problem so will make Beachport the official Club sand trip.

Proposing to leave Friday 4th October, spend Saturday in the dunes, Sunday driving the coast and return to Melbourne 7th October.

Can everyone with an auszookers account jump on the Beachport thread and show if you are a definite or a maybe for the weekend.

Chen, Wayne or anybody else not on auszookers, just let me know and I will add you to the list.

Due to lots of interest in this trip on auszookers, the organiser is asking for confirmation of attendance by next Sunday, the 1st of September. So if you want to go and you're on auszookers, please jump on and confirm you are one of the Victorians heading over. If you want to go but are not an auszooker, let me know here and I will add you to the list over there.

If you want to go but can't confirm by the cut off date, it should be still possible to come along but we might have to camp at a different site and join the auszookers group each day.
