Should i buy a adapter plate (to stock 5 speed)or go 3 speed trimatic?
I have a beleno (hole car) injected engine and would like some advice on gear box options.
I have looked up some builds and it comes down to this i would like to have an auto but don't know if i could get it to work in time for the tour?
So would it be a straight forward option to just slide in the stock 5 speed ( its in good nick) plus adapter and get it driving?
I don't think gearing is a problem stock box>6.5-1 > 4.1-1> 35" tyres.
What do you think guys?

you can always on-sell the adaptor kit after the tour perhaps

The trimatic should be no problem to set up- it's a cooler, cut down jack shaft and a trans tunnel cut the difference- they're really no great hassle to fit.
I'd go the auto, you won't regret it.

Luke if you do cut the tunnel to fit in an auto I'd love to come and be a fly on the wall, especially the part where you weld it all up again.

Ok trimatic sounds like the winner
I have one at the wrecker in Warragul but even though it is in good condition with the transfer he is asking $660 for it!
Complete except for the drive plate so i might keep looking.

It's definitely not worth that. AW-4's are barely worth that.
They are not all that easy to find though, as they were only in the SWB's from 89-94. Once you have all the bits though, you can use other trimatic parts as a donor, from a commodore or whatever.

I have been there, they would want more than $660! Last time i was there (last week) I was quoted $200 for a Vitara housing bare $100 for two rear springs!
So I'm not a fan but you are right they would have what I want.
