Automatic practical/tech day, Saturday 14th April
Posted: Wed 14 Mar, 2012 5:30 pm
Well, as Piggles made it through the tour largely unscathed, I can run this trip. With quite a few auto's in the club and others planning to swap to auto, I think there's some benefit in a day like this.
Date: Saturday 14th April
Standard: easy(ish)
Meeting: marginal road turnoff of the Melba highway, 9.00am. This is 25 minutes from yarra glen.
Fuel: full tank from anywhere in Melbourne. We won't be doing much driving.
Format: my plan is to meet up at marginal rd, air down, drive to the soup bowls on Glenburn tk and have a chat about auto driving off road. It's a good spot to do it IMHO as there is lots of scope to watch and park and tackle steep ascents, descents, and tight, accurate maneuvering. Once we're bored with that, we will head to rocky track for some more extended "practice" on rock and ledges.
After Rocky Tk, we'll head to my place (10 minutes from rocky tk) where we can crawl over each other's cars, compare setups, crunch the gearing calculator and bench race ideas, and discuss car stuff.
Required equipment: there is no need for an auto car- if you are considering an auto come along- you should have a much better idea of the benefits/ work after the day. If you have an auto, it is the ideal opportunity to play with some advanced techniques in a no-pressure environment.
There will be a barbecue lunch at my place, so please confirm attendance for catering.
Steve.
I just realised I haven't posted my number on here in regard to this trip.
