front output shaft

Post by sam »

Hey
I'm just after some advice with transfer case gears and the front output shaft. I recently brought some 6.5:1 transfer case gears from low range and i saw that they sold a stronger front output shaft. Is this something i should get? I haven't installed the gears yet so any advice would be great.

It's not really necessary in my opinion.

It's predominantly to replace worn dog teeth of the front output. They're not very deep so the selector can pop out of front drive and into neutral if lots of load is put through the front end.

With very heavy rock use, it might be an issue, but even that's not really clear. In vic, I've never seen popping out of 4WD as a problem.

In any case, the front output can be removed without disturbing the gears or breaking the case apart, so you can fit it later if required.
