Rear spool went in today and test seems all good drives pretty bad on the road due to low tyre pressures but other wise one end locked one to go. Now to work out the front diff what to do with stay alloy till it breaks or spend the cash and buy a gv one

I reckon you better get that steel diff and bring a heap of spares!
There will be plenty of parts living on borrowed time in that vitara.
Have you got a winch on it? I'm worried it will be the heaviest car on the trip.

Ok - well my current plan is to try to get our accomodation booked in this week.
I am thinking Warburton.
Warburton has fuel, breakfast, lunch and dinner options. It also puts us right in the middle of Labertouche/Gembrook, Wesburn, Narbethong and Toolangi areas - which - are most likely where we will end up.
So - if there are no objections, I will try to book a few of the Cabins at the caravan park in Warburton. Any late commers can find themselves camping accom at the park.
Anyways - I'll make some calls tomorrow and see how we go.
Driving wise, I was thinking we could do something like:
Saturday - Labertouche / Northern Gemrbook areas
Sunday - Wesburn
Monday - Narbethong, with bonus points available through Toolangi back towards the Melba Hwy.
Questions:
Do we have any Narbethong gurus? I dont know this area at all.

I wouldnt say im a guru on narby but im not really aware of anything really hard out there unless its ridiculously wet. ive driven nearly all the tracks out there without much difficulty and ive only got a rear locker. its just alot of that red clay. there are some hardish really short random tracks that cut straight up the hill between tracks but theyre only 100m long and arent marked so they are hard to find. I only know of a couple and they would only give 10 mins of fun haha

You'd be surprised how much time we can burn on 100m of track Josh.

Unless I find a steal diff cheap was thinking about winging it on alloy see how the car goes then see how far I want to take it. I do hav a winch but not in the car or nor does it work ATM so have to fix those 2 things before the trip
