Having that spare diff will be a bonus.
I can get a steely, transfer all bits, fit locker, all without taking vit off the road.
Then just swap them over one day.
I'm assuming it is same deal, fit all the vitara mechanicals into a bare xl7/gv empty housings.
It will save me heaps buying it bare..

Another mishearing, or misunderstanding.
I only got the axle housing steel piece, without pinion housing.

I have to wait for a broken one to come in,
to be able to afford an empty pinion housing.

May revisit fitting Sierra housing if that takes too long.
Or just keep looking thru wreckers for a full steely.
Hope I didn't waste more money

Got a bit of cash together at last.
So now we are hunting for a steel front diff.
At wreckers and online parts locators (thanks CJ good idea)
Found a maybe 2 1/2 hours away, just waiting for more info to make sure it is steel.
Is there anything I can ask, to try and avoid a wasted trip?
I'm told its a 98 GV with steel front, but have not seen it yet

Yeah Chris.

The V6 GV's have steel diff housing.
Mine was a 1999 V6 GV, and the diff housing was steel.
The 4 cylinder ones had the alloy housing.

It will if it is a manual but not if it is an auto ;)

"its the late model one, so we will supply the mount as well."
Part of a reply from a zook wrecker.
Is a "late model"front diff going to be useful for me?

I'll have ring and pinion left over for sale, will check ratio when I fitter,
and give club members first option, before advertising it.

I came across an unexpected issue, but easy fixed.
Is only a problem if using a Sierra carrier into steel GV diffs
that use an internal mechanism in place of free wheel hubs
