Jon

A bit like Steve I think a convoy over a long drive can be a drag. When I travel with my mates in their bigger cars we usually set a meeting point and then go our own way after the off road bit. We have tried a convoy but when one person needs to stop for a pee then everyone has to stop etc, its a pain. You have my phone number in case you get stuck. I will give you a call when I stop for lunch and see where you are.

I will look out for you anyway.

I'm leaving Melbourne Thursday morning, arriving Beachport Thursday evening.
My phone is 0407 538 963
Auszookers uses 29 uhf.
I monitor 40 uhf on the highway(truckers and transport), and occasionally scanning all channels.
Will switch to 29 at Beachport.
Had phone signal at campsite last year, though only a low one.
My bigpond email is on strike at the moment, so sms or other means if needed.

Chris

Have a safe trip. I am in Sydney tomorrow but heading off for Beachport Friday morning. Save a few camp spots away from the camp fire and the late night explosions for us oldies please. See you Friday afternoon.

I need to head back on Sunday afternoon at this stage unless something changes when I am in Sydney tomorrow.

hope you are taking your sierra steve!
we need to play in the sand and see how sierras cope

anyways my sierra is playing good at the moment, no diff noise, locker working.
just an annoying exhaust rattle at 97-99 kph
was death driving in the wind down to the bottom of the peninsula freeway and back today and i rna out of petrol for the first time ever i nany car (on purpose, had a jerry can fill wit hme)
I wanted to test how my fuel sender was working.... not well!
it allerts me when it is about 20% full and then actually runs out when the needle reads half full.
that's what jerry cans are for!

hubs are working nice although very tight to turn (need pliers) but no way is water getting in there again.

We're back.
Great fun.
Well done Jon for getting his Zook up running at the last minute, and doing the trip with no issues.
Also proving an AT capable car can do long distance touring, and conquer big dunes..
Mike enjoyed his first dunes.
The Jimny and driver both did very well.
Steve proved a NGV can cut it in the sand.
Traction control is much better than I expected.
My Vit did ok, though I didn't conquer any monster dunes.
Long trip home didn't inspire me to take car breaking attempts.
(I must be getting older, or wiser :) )
