Hi Greg
Just got my $29 Aldi snow boots so now I am all set. Count me in for the the day trip please. My wife Vera will most likely come as well (at this stage anyway). I have booked accommodation of an acceptable standard in Mansfield but I can cancel by 25 July if needed.

There is a note on the 4WD Vic site about the Mt Skene permits and it was updated yesterday but I cannot actually find the article. I have emailed them to ask when the applications can be submitted.

I found the application for here:

So applications are open and the form can be downloaded by following the link above. It is not easy to find. You need to be logged in and its under Resources/Track permits.
I have downloaded it but it seems I cannot attach a pdf here so I will email it to Jon and Luke. I also noticed that a new condition of approval is that a minimum of one vehicle must carry snow chains. I don't mind buying some if no-one else has any as long as someone can recommend a place to buy them and what type. That means I will be in the Jimny because I am not buying two sets of chains.

I'd just hire them, never seen anyone buy them as you only use once then they float around the garage , eBay would be best bet if you want to buy.
