Resist the urge to machine material off calipers if they touch other components ( usually rims, but hubs on 4WD's can also be in the way ), the pressures and forces exerted within the caliper structure are very significant - especially in the bridge area.

Have heard of a stock cast caliper broken by hydraulic pressure ( some #$%^, incorrectly reconnected an ABS unit - had to rebend the lines to do it as well.... ). That's how much pressure an ABS pump can create. Tried to return it as a part defect !

Don't think an engineer would be too impressed either if that's the way your heading, but for your own and the safety of others - GET YOUR BRAKING SYSTEM RIGHT !
